Question: Can I install granite countertops over my existing laminate counter? Answer: No! Laminates are applied over particle board substrate because of its smooth surface. Particle board will expand if it ever gets wet, which will cause your granite to crack.
Question: Can't you just measure my old countertops and make new countertops off of those measurements? Answer: The only way to ensure you have a perfect fit with your new countertops is to measure the cabinet box on top of which they will be installed. Your old countertops could be hiding something that needs to be addressed before your new counters go in.
Question: What is your per square foot price on {pick a material}? Answer: We are reluctant to answer a question like this as our answer could be misleading. Our price is based on the price we pay from the supplier so we can pass any savings on to you. With Genuine Stone®, pricing can vary from slab yard to slab yard. Additionally, your total price will depend on your edge detail and any special cutouts for your project. We are able to give you an accurate proposal once you give us your cabinet layout.
Question: Can I put hot pans directly on my countertops? Answer: This is a common practice but one we discourage. With repeated rapid heating and cooling, even natural stone can start to develop micro-fissures which weaken the stone. We recommend you use trivets on all of your countertops.
Question: How often should I seal my countertops? Answer: It depends on the material. Quartz countertops never need sealed, whereas recycled countertops need frequent sealing. Natural stone is somewhere in-between. We use a high quality impregnator/sealer which reduces the frequency needed to seal your countertops. If you think that water is beginning to soak into your countertop more quickly, go ahead and apply a new coat. Give us a call for product recommendations.
Question: I dropped a pan on the edge of my stone countertop and now it's cracked. Can you fix it? Answer: As long as the crack is not structural, we can usually repair it. Call us as soon as it happens so we can help prevent any further damage.
Question: I found a natural stone at one of the slab warehouses in Seattle. Can you make my project out of that material? Answer: We love it when you find and "tag" a material at the slab warehouse. This tells us that you have personally inspected the stone and have decided that it is "the one" for you. Once you have finalized your details with us, we send our slab truck to Seattle and pick up your hand-picked material and use it to fabricate your project.
